David D. Rogers, MBA - Chief Executive Officer

David has served as the Chief Executive Officer for Sunset Community Health Center since early 2005. Sunset is a Federally Qualified Health Center delivering primary health care services as a safety net provider in Yuma County. David is a native of Arizona and has worked in health care for over 27 years as a Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Executive Officer. He serves as the Treasurer of the Arizona Community Health Center Collaborative Ventures and also as the President of the Arizona Association of Community Health Centers. His passion is improving the delivery of primary health care to underserved communities.
HISTORY
Sunset began receiving funding through a Public Health Service grant to the Yuma County Migrant Health Program in 1972. Services were provided out of a trailer in Somerton during those early days. The organization began operating under the name of Valley Health Center in 1976. The center employs approximately 200 health care professionals of whom 30 are physicians, dentists, pharmacists, or mid-level practitioners serving 27,000 users (inclusive of 6,000 migrant workers). In response to community needs, clinic staff expanded rapidly over the years. Sunset Community Health Center is an important part of the healthcare safety net and continues to expand sites and services to meet the needs of the communities we serve.
SERVICES ARE:
Sunset provides a comprehensive array of primary care services such as medical, dental, pharmacy, and OB/GYN services. The emphasis in the provision of primary care services is upon prevention, health maintenance of patients with chronic conditions, tracking, and follow-up of patients referred to specialty or other services. Sunset also provides Nutrition, Cariovascular, Diabetes, education and translation services. The services are provided in a managed care environment whereby many of the patients are enrolled in Arizona's Medicaid Program. Sunset operates out of 5 clinic sites throughout Yuma County in the extreme southwest corner of Arizona. Our patient population residing in the rural areas of Dateland, Tacna, Roll, Wellton visit our family healthcare location in Wellton. Our patients residing in the areas of Foothills, Yuma, Somerton and San Luis visit our family health care site locations strategically located in designated health professional shortage areas and/or medically underserved areas throughout the Yuma County to better assist our patient population.
GOVERNANCE
Sunset Community Health Center, Inc. is a migrant and federally qualified community health center, receiving Section 329 and 330 funding through the Public Health Service to provide health services to the residents of Yuma County. Sunset is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization governed by a 16 member Community Board of Directors whose primary Mission is to deliver comprehensive and preventive primary care in a culturally sensitive, compassionate and professional manner, ultimately improving the health of our patients and responding to the health and education needs of our communities with the Vision to build healthier communities and to improve the quality of life those we serve by collaborating and partnering with other providers and community organizations.
Our all-volunteer community health centers Board of Directors are made up of community leaders serving our current patient population. The management of Sunset Community Health Center is comprised of a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Director, Chief Financial Officer, Dental Director, Billing Director and South County Director.. Quality Assurance is maintained through a multi-disciplinary committee meeting once per month chaired by the Medical Director.
